Rules of Thumb Identifying True Prophets

As the end days approaching, there are so many prophetic ministries emerging and claimed to be true prophet. However, should we accept them without testing their ministry?

As the words of God says “Test everything.  Hold on to the good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Therefore, points below may be useful
  • Are their teachings and prophecies based on the biblical principle and sound doctrine?

  • Do they edify the body of Christ? It means that even they prophecy about judgment, it will promote the spirit of God’s love.

  • Do they respect the church leadership? Church leadership represents God’s divine authority on earth through the church.
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until  we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  (Ephesians 4:11-13)
It is clear that prophets have to work together with all fivefold ministry.
  • Do they prophesy out of their bitterness? Rejection? Spiritual wound? Otherwise they will speak out of their bitterness.

  • Do they have unconfessed sins? Otherwise, prophesy can be out of the evil spirit.

  • Are they accountable?

  • Are they humble?

  • Do they show mercy and prophecy out of love of God and others?

  • Do they live with genuine motives to advance the kingdom of God?

  • Notice that they do not prophecy for the sake of money.

These are just simple points on testing whether it is true prophet.
God Bless You All….
